 5 Gross Motor Skills Development Activities for Preschool (Age 3–5).


1️⃣ Jump the Line

Materials:

Tape or rope.

How to Do:

1️⃣ Place a tape line on the floor.

2️⃣ Ask children to stand behind the line.

3️⃣ Let them jump forward over the line.

4️⃣ Repeat by jumping backward or sideways.

Skills Developed:

Balance, coordination, leg strength.


2️⃣ Obstacle Course

Materials:

Chairs, cones, cushions, and hoops.

How to Do:

1️⃣ Arrange the objects to create a simple obstacle path.

2️⃣ Children walk, crawl, or jump through the course.

3️⃣ Encourage them to move carefully around each obstacle.

Skills Developed:

Coordination, balance, body control.


3️⃣ Ball Roll Game

Materials:

Soft ball.

How to Do:

1️⃣ Children sit or stand in a circle.

2️⃣ One child rolls the ball to another child.

3️⃣ The child who gets the ball rolls it to someone else.

Skills Developed:

Hand–eye coordination, movement control, teamwork.


4️⃣ Animal Walk Game

Materials:

Open floor space.

How to Do:

1️⃣ Ask children to walk like different animals.

2️⃣ Examples:

Hop like a rabbit

Walk like a duck

Crawl like a bear

3️⃣ Change animals every few minutes.

Skills Developed:

Body strength, balance, coordination.


5️⃣ Balloon Tap Game

Materials:

Balloons.

How to Do:

1️⃣ Blow up a balloon.

2️⃣ Ask children to tap the balloon and keep it in the air.

3️⃣ Encourage them to move around to catch it.

Skills Developed:

Coordination, movement skills, focus.
